Pig Cops are now packin’ tanks.
Duke for president of the multiverse.
Duke’s back for an official encore. Available in two flavors, the Plutonium Pack add-on for the original or the full fledged Atomic Edition, both come with Duke Nukem 3D version 1.4 and a bonus episode entitled “The Birth”. It takes you through another eleven action packed levels which serve to remind us why the original was so good to begin with. New enemies, varied locations, one bonus weapon (the “Enlarger” – basically a reversed Shrinker) and the same hectic action of DN3D means there’s lots of cool alien blasting to be had here.
The Atomic Edition’s bonus episode has Duke going through a variety of amusing locales, some paying homage to such movies as Mission: Impossible, Alien and Independence Day. These levels carry weight since they were actually created by the guys at 3D Realms. The levels are very fun too, and show some very keen use of the Build engine’s ability to create floors over floors. But just the general hilarity and the themepark feel of it all is enough to pick it up.
Also included with this pack is the official Duke Nukem screen saver, jigsaw puzzles and desktop themes, and, as part of the Build Engine 1.4, the Duke tag multiplayer game, wherein you and your fellow Dukers try to tag certain parts of their opponent’s side of the level all the while blowing up enemy teammates and avoiding getting yourself blown up in the process. There are a couple of new monsters (including a devilishly tough Alien-lookalike), a new Alien Queen end boss whom you’ll face in an underwater lair, and plenty of new textures and landscapes.
This upgrade should be appealing to those who enjoy using the Build editor because of the new textures and weather effects. Overall, these levels are solid and tough as well as incredibly funny. Suffice to say, if you’re a Duke fan, then you’ll probably want to pick up the Atomic Edition.

Duke Nukem 3D took the great elements of DOOM and made it better. 3D FPS (First Person Shooter) games to the nest level but making the games even more 3D than before.
Unlike in Doom, you could now create platforms on top of platforms, drive vehicles (Sorta), ride on moving platforms, better exploding enemies (This created the concept of 'gibs'), and now up to 9 weapons could be found and selected ranging from the simple pistol to the fantastic devastator weapon. This game also featured interactive environments, such as using a payphone, playing on a pool table, even interacting with the NPC's and enemies, stuff not found in Doom. The only real down side is that it is still the same old gameplay. Shoot the bad guys, find the exit.
Along with that, it featured multiplayer on an epic scale.
There are many different versions to this game, each with it's own amount of extras. They are as follows..
Duke Nukem 3D = Sandard game with 3 Episodes (Stop releasing after the Atomic Edition was made)
Duke Nukem 3D - Atomic Edition = Includes an extra episode that was originally released as 'Plutonium Pak' as an expansion pack.
The CD also includes some extra goodies, including the original Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem II games. Also, not too long after the release of the game, there were other expansion packs such as 'Duke It Out In DC' and 'Vacation Paradise'. Most of the expansions were not endorsed by 3DRealms.
There were also tons of expansion packs that were sold on CD's as D!Zone, which included 100's of maps for single and multiplayer, and extra content for allowing you to edit and modding of maps so you could make your own maps. The CD also included instructions for how to beat the original game and tutorials on how to make maps yourself to include exploding walls, disappearing aliens, and much more.
Also, this game got ported to a few consoles, such as N64 and Playstation. Although not as good as the PC version, play did play okay.
As of today, there are mods and programs you can find so you can run the DOS version on your Windows system. The program can be found and used freely and even comes with a working program so you can using the map editor designed by Ken Silverman. It's also still being sold so you can run it on Windows 8 which includes the original 2 games and the map editor. Look for it on Steam.

Installing EDuke32
1.Download the archive and extract it to a new folder.
2.The next step is to provide EDuke32 with the game data.
If you bought the game from Steam (as Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition) or GOG.com, copying the data yourself is not required. EDuke32 will use the Windows registry to automatically identify your installation and add the required data to its search path.
Otherwise, copy the files DUKE3D.GRP and DUKE.RTS from one of the following locations to the folder created in step 1. (On Windows, the GRP file may show up as a 'Microsoft Program Group'.)
- Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition on Steam: <path to Steam Library>SteamAppscommonDuke Nukem 3Dgamerootclassic.
- Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition on GOG.com: <Program Files>GOG.comDuke Nukem 3D
- Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition CD-ROM: <CD root>ATOMINST
- Duke Nukem 3D CD-ROM: <CD root>DN3DINST
If you have not purchased the game, the shareware demo is also supported.
3.Run EDuke32! EDuke32 (eduke32.exe) will allow you to play the game, and Mapster32 (mapster32.exe) lets you create custom maps.
